10 FAQ’s About Pinsa

Pinsa may be a household name to some, but many still do not know the wonders of this Roman delicacy. As Pinsa Romana shares the Italian love with people across the U.S., these are 10 frequently asked questions about pinsa:

What is pinsa?

Pinsa is a Roman-style pizza crust that is fermented and hand-pressed to perfection, resulting in a crispy, delicious base. At Pinsa Romana, we create par-baked pinsa crusts, perfect for topping with fresh ingredients and popping in the oven for just a few minutes!

How is pinsa different from regular pizza crust?

Healthier, tastier, and crispier, pinsa is the ultimate upgrade from traditional pizza! Pinsa goes through a meticulous process to maximize digestibility without compromising flavor. Using a blend of non-GMO flours, high levels of hydration, and cold fermentation, pinsa is vegan, gluten-friendly, and easy to digest!

How is pinsa made?

We begin by combining our non-GMO flour blend with 80% hydration to then be fermented for 48-72 hours. After fermentation, our dough is hand-tossed and hand-pressed in our SQF-certified facility. It is then par-baked and delivered to you—ready to be topped, baked, and enjoyed!

Where can I get pinsa?

Although we’re not available in stores just yet, you can find pinsa at a variety of breweries, restaurants, cafes, bars, and more. Check out 6 restaurants serving pinsa in Wisconsin here!

Where does pinsa come from?

The origins of pinsa go back to ancient Rome, where they cultivated a flatbread that was as versatile as it was delicious. Romans quickly fell in love with this simple, delicate dish, and even offered it to the gods. Revered for its mesmerizing flavor, fragrance, and texture, pinsa still graces dinner tables today. How is pinsa better for you?

Pinsa is carefully curated to not only taste good, but to also make you feel good. Gluten-friendly, non-GMO, and easily digestible, pinsa crust is lighter and lower in calories than traditional pizza.

Where does the name ‘pinsa’ come from?

Pinsa comes from the Italian word ‘pinsere’, meaning ‘to press’. Quite fitting, huh?

What is the best way to top pinsa?

When it comes to pinsa, the top-abilities are truly endless! You don’t have to stick with classic pizza toppings like tomato sauce, cheese, and meat. Experiment with recipes— from sweet, to savory, and everything in between. With a perfectly crisp base like pinsa, you can top it with whatever your heart desires.
